  • The General Practitioner (GP) is a doctor who plays a central role in the Irish healthcare system.

    • They are often the first point of contact for medical advice.

  • GPs provide a broad service to their patients on all health issues, including mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders, like ADHD.

    • To access public services, you will first need to chat to your GP for advice.

  • Most GPs are private practitioners, but the majority will accept Medical Cards and GP Visit Cards.

    • Most people who do not have a Medical Card or GP Visit Card will have to pay a fee for a GP visit.

  • The HSE have a service directory to find GPs near you here.
